Have you ever walked the line? How long has it been since your last conscious attempt to do so? Maybe your line had a different look. Maybe it was a balance beam, or a fence, or a ledge of some sort. Perhaps it was a plank, or the ridge of a roof. Whatever the situation, or occasion you were dealing with, good balance was an important ingredient to the task. Faithful attention to what you were doing was needed.
While there may be occasions where your life needs to be out of balance for a specific focussed result to be achieved, there will be a high price to pay if you stay locked into that situation too long.
If you were to exercise too much and do not take time to rest and restore your body, you increase the chances of injuring yourself. If you read constantly, or do a disproportionate amount of mental work, your body may not have the proper circulation and fitness level it needs for good health. If you spend an enormous amount of time meditating, or relaxing, your brain waves slow down and your mental agility can be negatively impacted. Any time your focus causes you to lose balance in any aspect of your life, there will be consequences that surface that you were not expecting or desiring.
Be vigilant and aware of anything that is moving you in the direction of an addiction. Be disciplined enough in your life to draw back and away from the influences that are pushing you to extremes. Recognize early the self imposed denial that there is a growing imbalance that needs addressing. Remember, all that glitters is not gold. Slavery to substances is only one form of addiction. If your weak spot is technology be aware, deal with it before you reap the eventual consequences.
It may be to your advantage to plan strategies which will help you walk a line that brings a balanced perspective to you life. Wise daily choices as to what you do and where you go could help you in your process of staying balanced. Remembering you are spirit, soul and body and as such need to take care of every area of your being is important. Jesus provides a model for us to follow. John 14:6 records His words as He declares, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Having spent more than 50 years walking the line of His path, I am glad I made that choice.
