When I began, a number of years ago, to investigate the universal principles of living a successful life, one of the very early lessons was on learning to set goals that are believable and achievable. It is important to develop a pattern of winning that includes such an expectation.
There are benefits in going back to and spending time with the basic universal principles. Recently I celebrated some very basic wins. It was the first time I had gotten dressed in the morning and stayed dressed until I went to bed. I have been up and dressed for periods of a day since my operation, but not a full day. This is something most people take for granted and never even give it a thought.
I also slept in a regular bed for about two hours. I have attempted to lay on a regular bed in recent days, but not been able to sleep. This is a win and is to be celebrated because, it means, if I can do it for a couple of hours, I can ultimately spend a whole night in a regular bed.
Last August when I had a close brush with death, the doctors said my bladder might never work again. I spent nine months on a catheter and we prayed and you prayed believing God would heal. The doctors were amazed at how much the bladder reduced in size. They said it just doesn’t happen, but with God all things are possible.
One of the challenges for everyone who goes through the surgery I had a month ago, is that people must deal with incontinence. Yes, I have had a few dribbles over the month, but on average, less than twice a week. This is an amazing win considering the situation last August and I celebrate each “dry day” knowing that complete success is coming soon.
Little things, like being able to now help dry dishes, or do small chores as a part of the family team are wins. Between the time I wrote this article and when you will read it, I will have driven the car for the first time since my operation. This is a win!
Take the time to reconnect with who you are and what you do in a conscious way and celebrate the wins in your life now! These will move you forward towards greater success in your life.
