I received this article few days ago from a friend, Tom Ward, who writes a daily blog for www.poweroflivingbydesign.com. I would encourage you to go to his website and sign up to have him email his articles to you. I have his permission to share the article below with you.

The Canadian and U.S. Standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches.

That’s an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that’s the way they built them in England, and English expatriates designed the U.S. Railroads.

Why did the English build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that’s the gauge they used.

Why did ‘they’ use that gauge then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they had used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that’s the spacing of the wheel ruts.

So, who built those old rutted roads? Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (including England) for their legions. Those roads have been used ever since.

And the ruts in the roads? Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels. Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.

Therefore, the United States and Canadian standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot.

In other words, bureaucracies live forever.

So, the next time you are handed a specification, procedure, or process, and wonder, ‘What horse’s ass came up with this?’, you may be exactly right. Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the rear ends of two war horses.

Remember from The Power of Living By Design: “We are perfectly designed to get the results we get based on the CHOICES we make.”

As Emily pointed out to me as we read this story, “our CHOICES are DECISIONS, so people shouldn’t say that their decisions, as an individual or as a group, like a city council, don’t matter. Their decisions can affect others for years!”

This is so true…so let me share the rest of this story…the twist to the story:

When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, you will notice that there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory in Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit larger, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains and the SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses’ behinds.

So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world’s most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse’s ass.

It makes one wonder? What “design features” of my life have I made without understanding the full “why” behind it? Questioning and knowing our “why’s” can help us to better “Live By Design.”

If you have a connection to people who claim to be “Christian,” you have probably heard someone say, “I am looking forward to the second coming of Jesus soon!” I am of the persuasion this is attitude is not necessarily Biblical. I want to let you know up front, I believe in the second coming of Jesus. I just do not believe it is an exciting, party type moment, in history to be celebrated.

Do we need to be ready for the return of Jesus? Absolutely! Will there be celebration in the presence of Jesus? Yes! Isaiah 25:8 looks into the future and declares, “He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. Yahweh has spoken.”

Revelation 7:17 tells us, “For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” The reason for the removal of tears may be necessary, because God’s people failed in their mission to influence people to say YES to the relationship with God through His Son, Jesus the Messiah. They lost sight of the training Jesus provided to His followers to make this earth a location where God’s will was done, as it is in heaven.

It is vitally important for God’s people to understand who they are “in Christ” and live the “life” they have been gifted by God. The same Greek word translated “life” in English is used in John 3:16 in an eternal context, and John 10:10 in what is deemed an earthly context. Your life now is to be in alignment with what it will be for eternity in “heaven.”

The second coming of Jesus to this earth is a judgment of humanity’s heart condition and actions. When we choose to believe this world is so evil we want Jesus to return, what vibrational frequency are we transmitting? If you don’t know, I will tell you. We are transmitting a frequency that this world become more evil. For me this kind of thinking is not in alignment with God’s will. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

God is interested in shifting the mind set of people so they will experience transformational freedom. That is what repentance is all about. Let’s focus our thought, beliefs, words, intentions and actions there, rather than on the second coming of Jesus to this earth. By God’s grace and mercy let’s make this world a better place to be.

There are many individuals who would say they are a “Christian” and yet are strongly opposed to anything connected with hypnosis, because they believe it is wrong to allow anyone to manipulate their thinking and actions. This article is not about a debate on the subject of the morality of hypnosis.

It is on a call for those who claim to be “Christian” to be consistent in what they say they believe and don’t believe. Many years ago now I took a course on hypnotic languaging to be able to gain insights into the methods being used through the media to manipulate the thinking, beliefs, declarations and intentions of the general population. Without knowing what is really happening a person is like sheep amongst hungry wolves. It is important to be mindful of the dangers around you.

God’s Word says we are to use wisdom and if we lack it, we are to ask for it. Wisdom and common sense go hand in hand. I watched the media try and force the idea of global warming on the world by inciting fear among the people. When science could not back up the claim, they changed the wording to the threat of “climate change.” Look at the response of people to this latest manipulation of thought, without giving a serious look at what is really being touted.

When I was in school we were taught, weather changes. Climate has cycles it moves through and thus weather patterns will change. Now the call is everywhere, “CLIMATE IS CHANGING, WE GOT TO STOP IT!!!!!” “WE HAVE TO REDUCE OUR CARBON DIOXIDE OUTPUTS!” Really? Basic science tells us, plants need carbon dioxide to live. The plants then provide oxygen so animals, including humans, can live. Have you ever considered who wants the earth and everything in it to be deprived of what God designed for them to have, so health can be diminished? What is the current attitude being promoted to diminished health? Get you on drugs, right? Who profits from this mentality and who suffers from it? God gave this planet has the ability to bring balance back into its systems when something happens to create imbalances.

On the weekend I am writing this article the media has been creating a mindset of fear and expectation that a “major winter storm” will dump 12 to 40 inches of snow along the east coast of North America. This has been the message for several days now. Guess what? As Earl Nightingale wrote in The Strangest Secret many years ago, “You will get what you think about most of the time.” That is in alignment with God’s Word which tells us what we are to focus on. Hebrews 12:1-3 reminds us, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. {2} Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. {3} Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Be mindful of what is going on around you. Seek to bring your life into alignment with truth, wisdom and common sense. Don’t be a victim of the thought manipulators who desire to keep you powerless and controlled, like a sheep among wolves.

I was scanning through my graphics files and came across a series of pictures of hot chocolate. At that point I stopped what I was doing and went and made myself a cup, minus the marshmallows. In fact the drink I made tastes like hot chocolate, but is really a much healthier nutritional choice.

When I came back, I chose the specific graphic you see here for its emotional connection to this article and the feelings the words, “hot chocolate” aroused on this very cold day where I live.

Each sip I took from the mug as I was writing this article, automatically connected with the feelings I experienced as I thought about the drink I would enjoy, even as I waited for the “Source Energy” spun water to come to a boil.

What you see impacts your life in so many profound ways. Emotionally engaging pictures and video have the power to elevate your conscious awareness, or deflate it like a balloon with a hole in it. They can do the same to your spirit and emotions as well. The reality is people who come into your life have the same power as well.

Are there some people you meet, when you see them your life just seems to brighten? What about those who when you see them, it is like someone just turned the lights off in the room? You have the ability to do that to others. The question to be answered is, are the lights turned up or down when you enter a room. The daily choices you make in your life determine the true answer to that question.

Matthew 5:14-16 records the words of Jesus, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. {15} Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. {16} In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Let your life become a beacon of light and life to those around you. When they leave your presence may they feel like they have just experienced the blessings of having connected with a warm mug of hot chocolate on a cold day. If that drink does not make you feel good, substitute one that does. Have a terrific day.

It was March 2010. I was physically, mentally, emotionally tired and ready to give up on most everything I was doing. In reflecting back, it was likely in a moment of extreme desperation, I cried out to God to reveal greater levels of truth in my life. I referenced back to my heart’s desire and intention to stay true to Him, but I wanted to know more. The power of that intention and the grace of God manifested in my life and in just a few weeks the door opened for me and our family to become part of an international group of people who provided training, for those who are teachable in what some would label the “secrets,” or truths to the path for successfully achieving your goals and dreams.

There are some very basic principles in this process, which are very powerful. The principles take only a short time to learn, but a life time to master. It’s been a while since I actually have spent time going through the training on these basic principles and thought it might be worthwhile, in a new unit of time to refresh my memory. I had a task to complete that involved very little band width of thought, so I was able to focus on the training and view it in reference to my life now.

Initially, my decision to join this group was met with significant opposition by my peers and individuals who believed I was heading down a path to spiritual destruction. I chose to follow my intuition, stay true to my life long intention, but be open to truth, wherever it might be found. If it was truth, for me, its Source was God and therefore I did not need to fear, or run from it.

Our family continue to be members of this international group and I am thankful and grateful this is still a reality for us. As the result of being part of this group I have become associated with individuals who have become significant mentors in my life. This would never have happened if I had listened to the voices of those who tried to dissuade so many years ago.

In listening to the basic training again, knowing what I know now, the purpose of the training is to help individuals come to an understanding that each person is the creator of their reality, We are to live our purpose and fulfill our destiny, being the best version of ourselves we can be. For those who chose to say YES to the relationship with God, through His Son, Jesus, the Messiah, God’s Word holds many truths that will be revealed when you have an open heart and mind and the intention to learn them.
