I particularly like pictures of lighthouses. For me a lighthouse is a symbol that speaks of guidance and protection. A lighthouse also speaks of commitment. Regardless of the weather and situations around, it continues to do what it was designed to do for the benefit of others who depend upon it.
I have pictures of light houses on the desktop of my computer and pictures on the walls of our house as well. The song, “I thank God for the Lighthouse” is one of my favourites. Last evening as I walked through our hallway the lighting hit one of these picture in just the right way and the picture caught my attention and I stood in awe of what I saw. I cannot begin to count the number of times every day I walk past that picture and never notice it even exists. It is as if it is not even there.
Sometimes we are in danger of familiarity breeding indifference in our lives, if we are not careful. Familiarity has the potential to blind us to what is before our very eyes. It can remove that which is important from our very lives, because we become unaware of its existence.
It took a moment of light reflecting on that picture to bring it back into focus and remind me of what I was missing. Change the lighting and that picture provides a different story to the observer. When we fail to perceive the things that are part of lives, we cheat ourselves and those we can influence from being the best version of our self possible.
Allow the light of God’s presence and Spirit to shine in your life and let you SEE your life and the things around you differently. When you do, you just might discover things in your life will also change.
