A couple of days ago I “felt” the need to cut the front and back lawn. It was long overdue to be cut, but I had kept putting the task off with my health challenges. It takes a full two hours on the riding mower to get our front and back yard cut and it was a challenge to stay with it. The back field and back side of the drive shed take another four hours to cut and I did not have the energy to attempt any more. Later that night it began to rain and rain and rain. At the time I am writing this, it is 4:30 in the afternoon and it continues to rain. Radar shows the potential for many more hours of rain before it stops. We have a pot out on our back deck. I have no idea why it is there, but it currently has more than five inches of water in it and rising.
Based on the amount of water now laying around on the ground there would be no way to cut the long grass with the riding lawnmower before weekend. The ground would be too soft for the tractor and the grass too wet to mow it. Getting this grass cut was important in preparation for the 111th anniversary of our congregation and the fellowship time that will take place this weekend.
There are times when God’s Spirit moves you to do something, or you intuitively get a certain feeling. When this happens, it is important that you follow through on it.
It was many years ago now that a friend “felt” the need to drive home a different way than he normally would from a meeting. His trip took him along a route that is not highly travelled. That night, in that situation, he came across a vehicle that had left the road. Having some training, he was able to help the driver in the accident and call for an ambulance. As he shared the story he kept saying, “I had no idea why I ‘had’ to go home that way, I just knew I must.”
Listen to the quiet voice within you when you hear it speaking to you. It just might be important in ways you cannot even imagine.
